Some passions go beyond simple hobbies. They become disciplines, shaping the way we approach life. For musician and avid cyclist Cameron Avery, the connection between cycling, golf, and music run deep. Each demands patience, precision, and an almost obsessive pursuit of progress. Whether he’s out on the bike, hitting balls, or writing, the process remains the same. Small, deliberate improvements add up to something greater.
"What I love most about cycling is the measurement of tiny wins," Cameron explains. "It’s those small, almost imperceptible improvements. Whether it’s an extra 1kph faster on the same ride as last week or pushing wind for a little longer when you’re out with a couple buddies, the things that are seemingly insignificant make all the difference to how you feel. Those moments build into something bigger."
Rhythm and breathing is where things really come into focus. When those two things align the words cadence & tempo become interchangeable between the three disciplines.
For Cameron, cycling is a lot like golf in the way it balances competition and personal growth. "On the surface, you’re competing against others, but really, it’s about knowing yourself," he says. "Knowing where to push, when to maintain, hit your spot or throw one at the flag."
That ability to read the moment, to know when to take risks and when to hold steady is crucial. It’s all a solo pursuit, where personal improvement and inner understanding are at the heart of the journey.
“Aside from pursuing gains in performance, all three create strong fundamental pillars that allow you to discover endless pathways of creative execution.” He reflects, "There’s a ritual to all of them, the repetition creates structure which ultimately cultivates a space for freedom of movement.”
That philosophy is something we live by at Pedal Mafia, where the smallest details make the biggest difference and the pursuit of perfection is never-ending.
Whether on the bike, on the green, or on stage, it’s all about chasing that perfect moment. And for Cameron Avery, that chase never stops.
